About

I’m your average traveler.
Well, maybe not so average… I fly pretty frequently. I'm happy when I get a good seat, frustrated when flights are delayed, and am very much appreciative of Southwest Airlines' bags-fly-free policy. I am blessed to live the life I'm living.

I have this blog because I have stories to tell, people to meet and places to visit. I’d like to share my experiences with whoever stops by!

NOTE: I am not affiliated with Southwest Airlines, I just
happen to fly them.
A lot.

Flight 1197, 689

PHX - LAS 7/8

My guy and I were able to catch a flight together to Vegas. He forgot to bring something to listen to so I shared my earbuds with him - unfortunately, they didn’t drown out the screaming kid behind us. Oh well. We spent the flight flipping through the Skymall magazine, looking for items we’d like to have on our wedding registry. I joked with him about asking for the Big Foot figurine to put in our backyard. But seriously. I think that would be pretty epic - I wonder what our neighbors would think?

Big Foot!

While we were in Vegas we got our engagement photos taken. Since our wedding will be travel themed, we got them taken at the airport and on-board a Southwest 737-700! I was so stoked that we got that opportunity. Big shout out to the people who made that happen!

LAS - PHX 7/12

I caught an early morning flight home to Phoenix. My guy had left a few days earlier because he had to work so he picked me up when he got off work. My flight was quiet. I read through Southwest’s SPIRIT magazine and took in the great views of the Grand Canyon.

Until next time… fly safe!

Airplane bellies!

As I was driving around Phoenix today, I noticed a street off the main road. Lucky for me, this road just happened to be right along the flight path of airplanes landing at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. So I drove down, parked my car and took these pictures. Enjoy!

Flight 840

PHX - LAS

Instead of sleeping last night and only getting 4 hours of sleep, we (my guy and I) decided to just pull an all nighter. Needless to say, this made for a very interesting morning.

We arrived at the airport a little more than an hour early in fear of crazy holiday delays… and funny enough, the line at security was the same size it normally is that time of day.

Neither of us got selected for our special pat-down or nakkie scanner (I didn’t even see them there?), but we made it through safe and sound with all of our body parts untouched.

After getting our boarding passes we plopped down in front of the TV to watch some mindless news while we waited. We noticed this guy walking around with a small net… I guess I wasn’t the only person whose curiosity was intrigued because the gal next to us asked him what he was doing.

He was trying to catch a bird that flew into the terminal. Makes sense, right? How else are the birds supposed to get out? He then went on to describe his “catching” process…

“I get a loaf of bread and start to feed the bird. Then I’ll dip a piece in tranquilizer fluid and feed it to them. They’re usually knocked out pretty soon so I’ll catch them, take them outside and let them wake up in an area where they can fly free.”

I couldn’t help but laugh about the tranquilizer fluid… They’re so serious for such a small bird!

We continued watching TV after Bird Man left the area. One of the news stories was of a gal that went through airport security in her bikini. I was literally laughing out loud as they showed the video footage. They then said that a guy went through security in his speedo. These people are crazy! But needless to say, I began laughing again.

On the plane, despite the fact that it was 9am, we decided to take advantage of the free adult beverage on Turkey Day - compliments of Southwest. I had hot cocoa with Baileys Irish Cream… it was so deeeelicious!

After landing in Vegas, we decided to go downstairs and say hello to my mom before we headed home. Within ten minutes of opening the door to my mom’s place, our heads hit the pillow and we slept for a good 4 hours.

Happy Turkey Day everyone!

How to fart on an airplane

Yes, I’m going there.

We’ve all been on a plane when we get that whiff of air we wish we had never taken in. It’s not pretty. Quite frankly, I’ve smelt some beyond nasty smells on an airplane. Simply put, farts on an airplane are not fair to passengers who are confined in a cramped seat with nowhere to go. They’re stuck there, left to breathe in that awful smell with no air fresheners around.

I hope this little entry will educate other fliers on how to break wind without breaking other passenger’s nostrils.

So what do you do if you have to fart?

The most obvious answer would be to go to the lavatory and let one rip.
But what if you can’t?

There are circumstances in which passengers cannot get up to go to the restroom - seat belt sign on, turbulence, a snoring passenger blocking your way out, plane taking off, or preparing to land, etc. - but there are ways to let your stinker go without torturing everyone else around you. And you can do it without making it incredibly obvious. Sneaky stinkies!

It’s called the cabin air system and it’s right above your head. Yeah, that round nozzle thing that spews out air! What you may not know is this simple system can save you and your passengers a lot of trouble and embarrassment.

If you have to blow your backdoor trumpet, turn the air above you on full speed and aim it towards your crotch. This is generally the area where your gas is going to seep out from. You don’t have to keep the air on high for the entire flight, but a good minute before and after your release should do the trick. If you’re gassy the entire flight, for the sake of everyone around you, just keep it on.

Why does this work? It disperses the smell faster than it would if you didn’t turn the air on. So instead of getting a huge nose-full of heinous gas, the people around you will only get a tiny drift of it and probably won’t notice. Sure, they may get a slight hint of flatulence but it won’t linger because the air stream from above has dissipated it.

So there you go. There are no more excuses!

And remember, while you may enjoy the smell of your own fart, think about the other innocent people around you. You wouldn’t want someone next to you leaving a SBD (silent but deadly) one for you to inhale.

Fly safe and fart on.

Flight 1479

PHX - LAS

On my flight today I was able to enjoy some of the new music that my followers recommended to me. You know it’s good stuff when you’re sad you have to put your iPod away when the plane lands.

The flight today was normal - some bumps, mostly smooth, nice flight attendants, etc. The landing, however, was exceptional! It didn’t even feel like the plane landed on the ground - that’s how smooth it was. Props to the pilots!

Greener airplanes

MIT and NASA combine forces to create greener airplanes

Pretty cool ideas coming from MIT and NASA!

With this new design, airplanes will emit 70% less fuel - and if airlines factor that into their pricing for tickets, ticket prices should be lowered!

Flight 3240

SJC - PHX

My flight tonight was pretty nice. I had some company - my boy - so that was great. I always enjoy flying with friends/family. One of the funny parts on the flight happened as the pilot turned off the seat belt sign - it was smooth sailing until he came on the intercom and that was when we hit some turbulence. A couple passengers (including the pilot!) laughed along with me.

This weekend my family got together in Santa Cruz. We had an awesome hotel a block from the beach. We spent of time on the boardwalk playing games at the arcade and riding rides. My favorite ride was a ride that made it feel like you were flying - you lay down on your stomach and the ride lifts you up about 20 feet in the air and spins you around. It was great!

I wish I could fly like a bird! haha
