Travel Interview: Alisha
I “e-met” Alisha earlier this year when she interviewed me about my travel tattoo. She’s an awesome lady! Here’s her interview for Plane & Simple!

What’s your name (feel free to include the websites/blogs/etc. that you run)?
I’m Alisha aka The Makeshift Alisha aka This is Alisha on Tumblr
Where is your favorite place to travel and why?
So far it’s been Spain. It was the first trip I took alone … to a foreign country … as a lady … in my 20s … after college. It’s been the best decision I’ve made. I love Spain for simple reasons, really: the outstanding dining scene (cheap, small, endless plates!), the unfairly attractive people, and stunning landscape. I truly fell in love while I was there and dream about going back every single day. Plus, it was pretty easy to get around as a solo female traveler and I felt welcomed everywhere I went.
What’s your favorite airport and why?
Definitely not any New York airports, though Newark isn’t too bad. Madrid Barajas is super modern and beautiful and colorful and ultra cool. I’ve been there a few times (odd) and think it’s the coolest place.
What’s your favorite travel memory?
My weekend in Tarragona in Catalonia. It was the first time I ever felt so close to being Anthony Bourdain. The moment that sticks out to me the most is the morning I woke up in my friend’s quaint apartment, opening his shudders to be greeted by a roaring crowd in the forum below as “human castles” are being built, story by story. This is a traditional celebration in Catalan culture, so to witness it first-hand while sipping on freshly made cafe con leche and toast with jam, right on the ground below me, was absolutely breathtaking.
Where would you love to travel?
I’ve got my eye on Bogota, Colombia for my 25th birthday in February. I just want to take a short trip somewhere different that’s never been on my radar before. People keep raving about Colombia and I’ve got a former work associate living there so why not? Next winter I’m going to abandon the USA for a month of meat devouring, penguin searching, wine sipping, and “digital nomad” working in Uruguay. Fingers crossed!
Do you have anything else you’d like to add?
Sure! I’d like to first thank you for your blog existing. I think it’s important for young people to stumble across traveling women like you who take the plunge to go out and see the world on their own, in their own way. I’ve been trying to keep that inspiration going myself, so it’s always refreshing to find someone just as genuinely excited to travel as me and my peers. So for any young people out their reading who think they’re too broke, or indebted, or slaves to their crappy jobs - wake up and smell the coffee! It’s time to make yourself happy and go and live!
A big thank you to Alisha! It’s always refreshing to find another gal out there that is as passionate about travel as I am!
